It’s time for another get together, and due to such positive feed back on the last venue I’ve decided on Jamies in Canary Wharf again on Saturday February 4th at 7:30pm.
For those of you not familiar with Jamies, the menu is very reasonably priced for the quality of the food with something to please all tastes and pockets. There’s also a great atmosphere and it’s conveniently located on the Jubilee line and DLR. The website gives great reviews and a great night was had by all at the last pouch dinner.

It will be great if most of you can make it along. Please let me know ASAP if you are coming along so I can finalise the reservation.

If you know anyone new that has recently had surgery considering pouch at whatever stage, please invite them along. As always partners/freinds are more than welcome to join us.

Have you ever wondered who are the people who send you the IA Journal and newsletter and run IAGLW on your behalf.? Well here is your chance to meet us.

We will be at the café from 11am until 1pm– do join us for a chat and a coffee (no charge) – then maybe on to some shopping.

Weather permitting, we will sit outside, if not, we will be inside. The café is quite small and you can see all the tables from the door, so don’t be shy, come and meet the gang – committee members, past members, new members, old friends and new friends.

The Patient Voices annual event is organised for patients, their families and carers living with and beyond bowel cancer. It celebrates their achievements and aims to make a positive impact on their lives by giving the opportunity to learn more about how they can live as normal a life as possible, for as long as possible.

The programme includes a range of presentations and ways to participate, for example:
Professor Sir Mike Richards, National Cancer Director,  is the keynote speaker talking about current developments in healthcare policy.
One to one consultations will be on offer with specialist healthcare nurses and therapists workshops on positive living with a stoma practical demonstrations from companies such as John Lewis who will provide advice on looking good and feeling better.

Why should patients, carers and their families attend?

• To learn of updates in developments and innovations in the diagnosis and management of bowel cancer
• A chance to discuss their challenges and support needs with healthcare professionals and other patients
• The opportunity for patients, carers and families to learn more about the support available for medical, social, psychological, financial and information needs
• To be able to take away practical information and ideas to improve the quality of their lives through one-to-one consultations, demonstrations and workshops.

The next Internal Pouch Information Day will take place on Saturday November 6th at the Birmingham and Midland Institute (http://www.bmi.org.uk/). A day full of talks and interactive workshops, this is your chance to get the answers to all those questions from both the experts and those with a similar experience to yourself. There will be something of interest to everybody, whether you are still going through the decision making process, in the middle of surgery or are now an old hand.

The day will kick off at 9.30am and run through until 5.00pm, lunch and refreshments through the day will be provided. There is a £5 fee to reserve your place and bookings will be taken from 9.00am Monday 4th January. You can book by credit/debit card by calling National Office on either 0800 0184 724 (free) or 028 9334 4043.

Previous experience shows demand for these events is very high, early booking is essential to guarantee your place.

As well as the Information Day itself, we are also organizing social events the evening before and evening after, please let me know if you are interested in attending either/both of these (be aware as we are in Birmingham, the home of Balti, we will be sampling one of the Balti houses on the Friday evening which some may find a little challenging)
